Avinox Has Changed the E-Bike World (Again): Revolutionary Avinox MG Concept Motor with Gearbox Unveiled!

Just under three months ago, the Avinox brand shocked the cycling world by introducing its high-end M2 and M2S motors. If anyone thought the pace of innovation would slow down after that, the current Eurobike 2026 trade show in Frankfurt has just proven them wrong. Avinox dropped an absolute bombshell at the event: the Avinox MG Concept.

This is the brand’s first drive unit concept that fully integrates the electric motor, sophisticated electronics, and an automatic continuously variable transmission (CVT) into a single compact housing. Does this mean the definitive end of traditional derailleurs and cassettes as we know them? All signs point to yes.

What is E-CVT Technology and How Does the Avinox MG Work?

The acronym E-CVT stands for Electronic Continuously Variable Transmission. Unlike conventional shifting systems, you won’t find any fixed gear steps here.

Inside the Avinox MG unit, a planetary gearbox works in tandem with two electric motors:

  1. The first motor takes care exclusively of changing the gear ratio (determining how easy or hard it is to pedal).
  2. The second motor delivers the actual riding assistance.

Together, these two motors constantly evaluate your speed, the incline of the terrain, and the pressure you apply to the pedals. The result is a completely seamless gear change in real time. The system automatically maintains your ideal, pre-selected cadence, whether you are flying along a flat section or climbing the steepest wall. No clicking, no clunking, and no searching for the right gear—you just pedal, and the system handles the rest.

Breathtaking Key Specifications

Although officially a „concept product,“ Avinox demonstrated that its development is extremely advanced, and the performance metrics aim for the absolute top tier of the market:

Prototypes from Canyon and Mondraker Are Already Hitting the Trails

To prove that Avinox is serious and this isn’t just an academic paper project, massive support from cycling giants is already on display. Avinox closely collaborated with brands like Canyon, Mondraker, Commencal, and Forbidden during the development of this concept.

Real, functional prototypes were on display at Eurobike (such as a fully equipped full-suspension e-MTB from Canyon), which selected journalists already had the exclusive opportunity to test in the field. This proves that frame integration is fully ready for real-world deployment.

Behind the Scenes: Why Did It Come So Fast?

You might be wondering why Avinox is revealing another revolutionary drive just a few months after the premiere of the M2/M2S series, whose deliveries dealers and customers are still eagerly awaiting. The answer lies in a fierce competitive battle.

Directly opposite Avinox’s massive booth (in the spot where Bosch traditionally exhibited) sat the exhibition of Chinese manufacturer Gobao, which presented its own E-CVT motor, the X1P. The twist? Several former key engineers from Avinox allegedly ended up at Gobao. By presenting the MG Concept, Avinox sent a clear message to the entire market and its competitors: „We set the pace, and we won’t let our technological lead be taken away.“

On the other hand, sales networks and cycling media are scratching their heads a bit that Avinox is „firing into its own ranks“ so early and diverting attention from the current M2/M2S models. But for us tech enthusiasts, it’s fantastic news.

Verdict: The Future Without Derailleurs Is Here

Traditional bicycle derailleurs were never originally designed for the massive torque and permanent strain produced by modern, powerful electric motors. Stretched chains, bent hangers, and snapping cassettes are every e-biker’s nightmare.

The Avinox MG Concept brings a solution that makes perfect sense. The pressure on traditional component giants like Shimano and SRAM just skyrocketed today. And that is only a good thing for the evolution of e-bikes.
